RS Specialist Contractors delivered a programme of improvement works for Portsmouth City College at its Highbury Campus.
Background
Highbury Campus forms part of Portsmouth City College’s estate and operates as an active further education environment for students and staff.
Because the campus remained in use during the programme, RS Specialist Contractors carefully planned and sequenced the works. This approach supported the delivery of several workstreams while helping to limit disruption to the college’s day-to-day activities.
The works required coordination across internal refurbishment, mechanical and plumbing work, joinery, flooring, finishing and external maintenance activities.
Project management and site safety
RS Specialist Contractors managed the planning, coordination and delivery of the works at Highbury Campus.
Before work began, the team prepared a detailed programme and coordinated the required trades and subcontractors. Throughout the programme, RS Specialist Contractors managed health and safety on site in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The team maintained regular communication with Portsmouth City College and provided progress updates during the project. RS Specialist Contractors also worked to protect staff, students and visitors while the campus remained operational.
Materials used within the project met the relevant British Standards, and the works did not use deleterious substances.
Scope of works
RS Specialist Contractors delivered several concurrent workstreams across the campus.
Kitchenette installations
RS Specialist Contractors designed and installed multiple kitchenette facilities.
The work included associated plumbing, joinery and finishing works. Each kitchenette installation was signed off on completion in line with the relevant regulatory requirements.
IT suite refurbishment
The team refurbished an existing IT suite to update the learning environment.
The works included making good, redecoration and new flooring. RS Specialist Contractors programmed these activities to help minimise disruption to college operations.
Smoking shelter works
RS Specialist Contractors completed external works to the campus smoking shelter.
The scope included structural and finishing works where required. On completion, the team left the area clean and presentable.
Paving remedials
The team carried out paving remedials in several external areas of the campus.
RS Specialist Contractors identified defective paving, lifted the affected sections and reinstated them to provide a safe and even finish. The team maintained safe and accessible pedestrian routes throughout the works.
Carpet installation
RS Specialist Contractors supplied and installed new carpet in designated areas of the campus.
The team installed the carpet in accordance with Portsmouth City College’s specification and requirements.
Completion and handover
RS Specialist Contractors completed the Highbury Campus improvement works on programme and to the required standard.
The college continued operating during the project, while the team worked to minimise disruption. At completion, RS Specialist Contractors provided Portsmouth City College with the relevant certification, documentation and guarantees.
The result
The completed programme delivered a range of practical improvements across Portsmouth City College’s Highbury Campus.
RS Specialist Contractors installed kitchenette facilities, refurbished the IT suite, completed smoking-shelter and paving works, and installed carpet in designated areas. The project demonstrates the company’s ability to coordinate multi-trade refurbishment and maintenance works within an active college environment.
